Discography is a diagnostic procedure to determine if your back pain is caused by one or more discs. This procedure can help your physician plan your course of treatment.
During the discography procedure, you remain awake to provide your doctor feedback. Radiographic contrast (x-ray dye) is injected into your disc or discs with gentle pressure. Based on your response to each injection, your physician can determine which disc, if any, is responsible for your pain symptoms.
What can you expect after the discography?
Discography is a diagnostic procedure used to identify the source of pain. It does not treat or relieve pain. The results from the discography procedure help to guide medical decision-making.
